キキとは離れたところで、キキの両親と近所の人々が話し合っています。

男性：　But aren’t you worried about Kiki’s living in a big city all alone?

女性：　Of course, they are. But Kiki will be just fine.

一方キキと友達は、はしゃいだ様子です。

キキの友達：　You’re gonna find a big city by the ocean?

キキ：　That’s what I’m hoping, anyway.

友達（口々に）：　Wow, you’ve gotta such a‥. I’m so jealous of you for so much fun!

キキ：　But I’m not going just for a good time. In order to be a good witch and I have to train a year away from home.

友達：　Yeah. But you should tell that to the boys!

友達とはしゃいでいたキキに、お母さんが声をかけます。

お母さん：　Kiki, it’s time!

キキ：　Okay.

すると、お母さんがキキの持っているホウキに目を留めます。

お母さん：　That’s the bloom you’re going to be leaving on?

キキ：　Yeah. I just made it this morning all by myself.

お母さん：　Honey, it’s too small to be really safe. I’d rather you took my bloom. I know it’s better.

キキ：　But mom, That one’s so old.

お母さん：　And that’s why it’s good. You can rely on it time after time any kind of weather. Now Kiki, do this for me, please.

キキ：　But I workded so much for this one. Right, Jiji?

ジジ：　Your bloom is nice, but let’s take your mother’s.

キキ：　You’re no help.
